The Scratch Board

Your dog files their own front nails while chasing a treat. No holding, no restraint, no clippers near their paws.

How it works

Put a treat in the pull-out drawer. Your dog scratches at the rough filing surface to get to it, and that motion files the nails down a little at a time.

What arrives

• A flat wooden pad, 35 x 25 x 3 cm. Sandpaper filing surface on top.
• A pull-out treat drawer, 2.5 cm deep, that slides out from the side.
• It lies flat on the floor. There is no stand and nothing to assemble.

What to expect

• Front paws only. Dogs scratch with their front paws, so the board files the front nails. The back ones need the Nail Grinder.
• Maintenance, not a reset. A few sessions a week keeps front nails at a comfortable length. Badly overgrown nails need gradual work over several weeks.
• The surface is a consumable. It wears like sandpaper, because that is what it is.
• Supervise sessions, especially early on.

Getting started

Let them sniff the board with a treat visible in the drawer. Reward any interest at all. Once they paw at it once, they've got it. Keep sessions to a couple of minutes and stop while they're still enjoying it.
